What is Face Serum?

What is serum?
Serum is a skincare product you can apply to your skin after cleansing but before moisturizing that way you supply powerful ingredients directly into the skin.  Serum a great tool for targeting specific skincare problems such as wrinkles and fine lines.

Is serum a moisturizer?
Serums can be full of moisturizing ingredients (hyaluronic acid, collagen) to help skin retain moisture. But, that doesn't necessarily make them moisturizers. Face lotions and creams are better equipped to lock in moisture in order to keep skin hydrated all day long.

How often should I use my serum?
It all depends on the type of serum you are using. Read the directions on the bottle first, but typically once a day tends to be enough.

What's the difference between serum and face oil?
Traditional serums are water-based. Water-based serums go under creams and lotions. They nourish the inner layer of the skin because the molecules are small enough to penetrate the skin. Oil-based serums go on top of moisturizers because they have bigger molecules. They're supposed to keep the cream and whatever else you put underneath moist throughout the day.

Doesn't serum expire really fast?
Certain potent ingredients found in serums can become unstable once they come in contact with air. But thanks to science, modified versions of ingredients last longer. Best rule of thumb is to store your vial in a cool, dry place and use it up within six to twelve months.

Is serum right for your skin?
Probably. But first do some research and find out about the ingredients you are about to put on your skin just in case.
If you are acne-prone look for Vitamin C (improve's skin health, and nourishes your skin), Retinol (antioxidant, nourishes your skin), Zinc (soothes itching due to dryness and helps to promote healthy skin), and Salicylic Acid (unclogs pores).

If you have dry skin look for Vitamin E (antioxidant, protects cells from environmental damage), Niacinamide (improves skin elasticity), Glycolic Acid (gently exfoliates and lightens discoloration), and Hyaluronic Acid (retains moisture).

If you are feeling dull look for antioxidants like Green Tea Extract, Resveratrol, Ferulic Acid (these combat free radicals, brightens your complexion , and promotes healthier looking skin).
