Aloe Vera: Better than a Bouquet

If you’re a plant lover, then you’ll want to jump on the Aloe Vera bandwagon. Its reputation for healing, soothing and rejuvenating qualities is evident in the many products currently on the market. If you look closely, you’ll see many organic skin care products are focused around this key ingredient. In fact, many of our Advanced Clinicals products contain this lovely ingredient. Even the ancient Egyptians called it the “plant of immortality.”

So what exactly are the benefits of Aloe Vera? Well, the real question here would be, what doesn’t it treat?

Aloe Vera Helps With…

Acne and Scarring: Aloe Vera gel holds anti-inflammatory properties from two hormones called Auzin and Gibberellins. These properties not only reduce your current acne, but also stimulate growth for new cells, which promotes faster healing in a non-harsh way with little to no scarring.

Dryness and Oiliness: Combination skin is one of the hardest to treat, as it can be very difficult to find a product that treats both major skin issues. Treating a shiny and flaky complexion, along with acne, can be a complete nightmare. Thank goodness for Aloe, as it miraculously balances both. It acts as a dry barrier on the outside, while holding in moisture by binding cells and water together promoting hydration and skin cell renewal.

Aging: Aloe leaves contain two properties anti-aging lovers scream over: moisture and antioxidants. It is filled with skin-beta carotene and Vitamin C and E, which stimulates cell renewal (have you noticed how we keep repeating this?) six to eight times faster than your cells would produce normally on its own. Encouraged cell renewal = firm and refreshed skin.

Irritation and Sensitivity: Aloe is an emollient which helps soften and soothe skin while supplying oxygen to the skin cells. This encourages blood flow and strengthens skin tissue.

Sunburn: Aloe Vera is a powerful healer. It acts as a protective layer on the skin and helps replenish its moisture. Because of its nutritional and antioxidant qualities, the skin heals quicker.

Stretch Marks: Aloe Vera gel can help these stretch marks by healing the wounds left on your body, either from pregnancy or rapid weight gain/loss.

How to Integrate Aloe Into Your Life…

Make-Up Primer: Spread a thin layer onto your face after moisturizing and before putting on your foundation. It will keep your skin moisturized all day, while creating a matte finish, which eliminates oil and shine. It also acts as a protection barrier between your skin and makeup. Hallelujah! Praise Aloe Vera!

Face/Body Lotion: Mix Aloe Vera gel with pure Coconut Oil (view our post on Coconut Oil to read up on the benefits of that ingredient). Use this as a body moisturizer after the shower. Your skin will feel refreshed and renewed.

Face Mask: Face masks are crucial to achieving youthful skin, and it doesn’t hurt to add a little Aloe Vera in there once in a while. Mix a bit of Aloe into your mask (we love mixing this with Raw Honey, but that’s for another post), and it will provide a soothing/cooling effect to your skin. Simply amazing.

Advanced Clinicals incorporates Aloe in almost every single product as well. Whatever your problem area is, Advanced Clinicals is here to help.

Why Use Sheet Masks?

Facial sheet masks have long been a staple of K-beauty, also known as Korean beauty, and have become an increasingly popular part of beauty regimens everywhere. That’s because sheet masks are extremely convenient to use and one of the quickest ways to restore a healthier and more youthful appearance to dull, tired skin. If you have never tried a sheet mask, here is what you have been missing:

No Mess, No Fuss Skin Care

Facial sheet masks are pre-cut fabrics infused with serums that contain assorted skin care ingredients. They are ready to use when you open the package; they do not require activator ingredients or tedious application processes. You simply apply and wear facial masks for about 20 minutes; there is also no clean up necessary when done.

Results in 20 Minutes!

Facial sheet masks are effective because as they adhere to your skin, the ingredients infused in the fabric are transferred and able to penetrate the epidermis of the skin. With just one 20-minute mask application, your skin will appear softer, smoother, and rejuvenated – often rivaling the results of a spa treatment.

Targeted Treatments

Sheet masks offer treatment flexibility. Want to replenish moisture? Calm irritated skin? Lighten the appearance of dark spots? Make fine lines less noticeable? The serums in facial masks are formulated to support specific functions, so you can tailor their use to target and correct your skin care concerns.

A Healthy Dose of Pampering

A secondary benefit of using sheet masks is the stress relief they provide. When you take time from your hectic schedule for a session of pampering with a facial mask, the pressures of life lighten a little and fatigue fades. The results show up on your face.

Beauty to Go!

Facial sheet masks are great for home use, but they are also convenient travel companions. Masks are packaged in thin, sterile foil packets – making them perfect to take along on business trips and vacations, or to use before a special event. With facial masks, you can get a beauty boost whenever and wherever you need one.

Don't forget to check out our new collection of sheet masks that are currently on sale until Wednesday, April 26! Simply use the code UNWIND for 20% off all masks (yes those include the clay and gel masks as well!).

6 Skin Care Ingredient Must Haves

Retinol: For Anti-Aging (And Everything Else)

If there's one ingredient praised more than any other for its wrinkle-fighting, complexion-perfecting abilities, it's this crazy-effective derivative of vitamin A. The deal with Retinol is that in study after study, it has been shown to build collagen, decrease fine lines, and improve skin's texture. The prescription version (Retinoic Acid, or Retin-A) acts fastest but is pricey and can be drying. While creams and serums may take a bit longer to show results, the effects that worth while. Whichever type you use, you'll want to ease into your Retinol use slowly. But stay off harsh physical scrubs and peels while you're using Retinol; remember to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize; and use extra sunscreen for the first six months.

Hyaluronic Acid: For Serious Moisturizing

This little molecule helps lubricate our joints and keep skin plump, and is one of the world's finest humectants (elements that attract and retain water). What does that mean for skin? Hyaluronic Acid is not only a great moisturizer but it goes well with other active skin care ingredients (so you can layer it with Retinol, for example, and use it daily). The best part about using Hyaluronic Acid is that it doesn't have any fine print on how to use. It benefits any skin type, at any age!

Vitamin C: For A Boost Of Sunshine

Vitamin C is an incredible antioxidant and it stimulates collagen production. In other words, it increases radiance and evens out spots. Vitamin C protects the skin against sun damage, but from the inside out. Therefore, it should be used in conjunction with a daily sunscreen applied after the moisturizer, since sunscreen needs to work on the very top of the skin to protect it. Vitamin C is not a substitute for SPF protection, even though it works as a strong anti-oxidant from deep within the skin.  For best results and for an even bigger brightening boost, combine Vitamin C with Vitamin E or Ferulic Acid.

Collagen: For Firming Skin

Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It is found in our muscles, bones, skin, blood vessels, and other parts. Collagen is what gives our skin strength and elasticity while replacing dead skin cells. In other words, it is the "glue" that holds us together. As we age, our skin begins to produce less and less Collagen. In doing so, our skin loses that plumpness it once had. Increasing Collagen levels can help your skin look firmer, increase smoothness, and help your skin cells keep renewing and repairing normally.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids: For Smoothing Skin

Alpha Hydroxy Acids, or AHAs, are natural acids that act as chemical exfoliants which help to loosen and get id of the dead skin cells on your skin's surface. Regular exfoliation helps keep your complexion naturally bright by preventing a buildup pf dead skin cells that dull your skin. AHAs can help with clearing up sun damage, hyper-pigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles. By removing the dead skin layers, you are optimizing your skin's absorption's levels so you get the maximum results from your favorite skincare products.

Charcoal: For Detoxifying

Activated Charcoal is a potent natural treatment used to trap toxins and chemicals in the body, allowing them to be flushed out so the body doesn't reabsorb them. Throughout the day, natural pollutants are all around us and tend to clog up our pores, thus causing our complexion to look rather dull. Charcoal can help to unclog pores, reduce unwanted excess oil from our skin, and deep clean your skin.
